Dump The Pump Day
Thursday, June 9, 2016 - C-TRAN is inviting Clark County travelers to "dump the pump" and take public transportation on June 16, 2016, as part of national Dump the Pump Day. To encourage people to ride locally, C-TRAN will provide free service across its entire system for that day.
The fare-free day will apply to all C-TRAN routes and services, including Express routes, C-VAN and the Connector. If you haven't used public transit before - or perhaps it's been a while - consider it a good opportunity to give public transportation a try. For our regular riders and pass holders, C-TRAN will be saying thank you in other ways during the day.
Dump the Pump Day, now in its 11th year nationally, encourages people to ride public transportation (instead of driving) to save money. Choosing transit over a daily commute by car can save a person more than $9,000 per year, according to the American Public Transportation Association. But the benefits are more than financial: Transit also provides an environmentally friendly mode of travel that accounts for a huge reduction in carbon emissions each year. Transit improves traffic congestion. And transit riders can enjoy a more relaxed or productive trip while someone else does the driving.
Throughout Dump the Pump Day, C-TRAN riders will receive stickers to show their participation. People can also post photos to social media using the hashtag #dumpthepumpCTRAN to show the community what public transportation is all about.
The C-TRAN Board of Directors approved free service for Dump the Pump Day during its May meeting. C-TRAN will also offer free service at other special events later this year
